I'm looking for advice on a good Mesmer/Ranger build.
Yes I know it isn't a highly recommended build etc.
I'm a girl and I like to play mostly Ranger seconds for the pet, this is important to me so please keep this slot open in the build set up.
I have all of the other professions and really want to try this out.
I am not worried about not getting invited into groups etc because of this build as I usually prefer to play with henchies anyway so.....
any advice is appreciated! At least polite advice that is LOL

Yes, Its not a desired Build true, but i think i Can help. Not sure what mesmer magic you primarily use. I have a few semi ideas, but either pm me in game or reply and i think i can help out

PvE or PvP?

If PvE, I'd suggest Charm Animal, Comfort Animal, Call of Protection, Visions of Regret, Power Drain, Power Lock, Empathy, Shatter Hex. Max Domination, 9-10 Fast Casting, rest in Inspiration. The animal will be little more than a meat shield, but you'll be able to get around and be useful to your team.

So basically what you're saying is this:

"I want a Mesmer build with 6 skills because I want to waste one quarter of my skillbar on something 'pretty'"

I second Celestial Beaver's build - only problem might be energy, so if you're a solid interrupter and can guarantee the Daze, I'd switch out [[Poisonous Bite] for [[Scavenger Strike] (its icon is outdated as well, only 5e cost, and instead of +damage for condition it's +energy). If you can't guarantee the Daze, maybe drop Mauling for it.

Hi there Grace. I'm not going to rub it in, but I will point out that you won't be nearly as effective with that pet, but otherwise, it's your choice, so here's what I came up with for my HoM pets while my Mez was leveling them...

Charm Animal
Comfort Animal
Hex Eater Vortex (or Visions of Regret)
Shatter Hex
Empathy
Cry of Pain
Scavenger Strike
Ebon Assassin Support

then just make sure to have your heroes pack a little bit of condition spread. for me, i just took a necro with Death Nova and another with Enfeebling Blood, so I always had a target with something on it for the energy management of Strike.

btw, this build was purely for fun and the sole purpose of leveling pets for my HoM, and I really cannot say that this is efficient or recommended. Good luck regardless.

Funny this thread should up I was running a Mes/ranger [choking gas] at the fort last night. Good fun stopping turtles.

Well there was a mesmer ranger beastmaster build using [Illusionary weaponry] in the old days (still should work in easier areas) Do not remember it sorry

I suggest getting a great Domination bar then replacing the rez sig with the pet since you are with Hench.

This build has 3 spots for beast skills and a boat load of attributes to use

As I was very up front about the fact that yes I am a girl and yes I did want to go Ranger second because of a pet I don't see why you had to be smarmy about it Celestial Beaver. There are a lot of people that play this game that act like it is life or death instead of FUN, and I have no time for those people.

I thank you VERY much for all of the decent suggestion from others....

Because people always ask things like "What other professions have you played, where are you in the game, which campaigns do you have." etc etc

I apologise if you were shocked by my post, but I maintain that sometimes shock is still a good way of ensuring someone understands the repercussions of their actions. I've known many people who have given themselves and all their heroes pets in the past for the simple reason that "they're cute", and when you have "8 cute pets" in a team of 8, that's 16 skills (or 2 skillbars worth) you're missing out on (assuming every player has comfort and charm). Now I'm not suggesting you give all your heroes pets, and I know you say you play with henchmen, but I was merely trying to get the message across of just how much you miss out on by insisting on using a pet.

Regardless of my thoughts on pet usage outside of the ranger profession, I did provide you with a build, which at the very least, would be fun. I too play the game for fun, but so long as you understand the handicap you're giving yourself - crack on. If everyone simply churns out Me/R builds and doesn't point out that you could be far more effective by just going full Mesmer then what will you have really learned here? A bunch of mediocre builds at best, possibly with no clear realisation that none of them are particularly amazing. Have you considered giving a Ranger (or Warrior) hero [[Revive Animal]? That way at least you'd get a skillslot back.

Oh, and by the by, I'd concur with Tyla's suggestion of Distracting Shot!

Mediocrity, especially in this game is under rated darling!
I have no desire to be a hard core gamer obsessed person who sits around pecking their brain with stats etc.
I merely wanted a little advice is all!
To me it's just a fun little game I sit down and play for a few hours after a long day.
Maybe to explain to you why my pets are so important? My job is animal rescue so yes I love love animals and to have a team of wolves is so very very awesome and FUN to me, see?
I am sorry if I was pouty to you but sometimes the forum people can be so MEAN to me and impatient about my trivial little questions when they are so skilled and running around the Under World in their little capes while the only green I have ever gotten was an end game

Hmm,
What about
[Illusionary Weaponry] (Use sword or axe + shield)
[Never Rampage Alone] IAS
[Distortion] Blocking stance so wont die from physical. I guess this is optional
[Scavenger Strike] E management to fuel distortion also optional but e management might be important on this build..
[Poisonous Bite] for extra dmg and fuel Scavenger strike, or maybe another enchantment to cover IW (just make sure you use hench that cause conditions) I guess this slot is pretty much optional if they do...
[Comfort Animal]
[Charm Animal]
[Res]

Blessed Insignias for +10 armor would be good to against casters.... 12+1+1 Illusion, 12 Beast mastery, rest in fast casting i guess...

This will allow you to fight with your pet in the front lines!
